Can construction companies claim SR&ED?
Yes. Developing novel construction methods, engineering new prefabrication systems, or creating innovative structural designs that involve technical uncertainty qualifies. Standard building to code does not.
Is BIM development eligible?
Custom BIM tool development, integration of BIM with IoT sensors, or building digital twin platforms that require solving technical unknowns can qualify for SR&ED.
What training grants are available?
The Ontario Job Grant (which replaced the Canada-Ontario Job Grant) covers up to $10,000 per trainee for third-party training, up to 25 trainees per application. The Skills Development Fund funds larger workforce projects when a round is open, and many provinces have apprenticeship incentives.
